Sub: Bank Guarantee for transhipment of cargo from Mumbai Port to Feeder Ports/ICDs/CFSs– reg.

Attention of all Importers, Steamer Agents, Custodians of ICDs/CFS and all concerned is invited to this Custom House Public Notice nos. 58 dated 08.05.2001 and 108 dated 14.09.2001 wherein it has been provided that for transhipment of cargo from Mumbai port to feeder ports/ICDs/CFSs, a bond with Bank Guarantee of 15% of bond value would be taken from the carrier. In this connection, on receipt of large number of representations from the trade seeking removal of Bank Guarantee requirement, it has been decided as under:

2. All the Central Government and the state Government undertakings carrying the transhipment cargo are exempted from the requirement of Bank Guarantee for transhipment.

3. The Custodians of ICDs/CFSs, operating as Carriers for transhipment cargo between Mumbai port and their ICDs/CFSs, shall amend the terms and conditions of the Bank Guarantee, executed with Customs for custodianship of ICDs/CFSs to cover safety and security of cargo being transshipped by them. The details of such Bank Guarantees shall be informed to the Commissioner of Customs, Mumbai. The Custodian of ICDs/CFSs shall be allowed to transship the cargo against the Bank Guarantee and will not be required to execute a separate Bank Guarantee for transhipment.

4. For other Carriers, the existing provision of 15% Bank Guarantee shall continue.

Public Notice No. 108 dated 14.09.2001 stands amended to the above extent.
