Imports through Courier

Under the current Exim Policy, import of goods through courier is permitted, in accordance with the Courier Imports (Clearance) Regulations, 1995, as amended by the Courier Imports (Clearance) Amendment Regulations, 1997, notified by the Government of India, Department of Revenue, Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC), New Delhi. Where the C.I.F. value of the consignment imported through courier service, does not exceed Rupees one lakh, the relative Bill of Entry is required to be filed by the registered courier service. However, where the value of the consignment is Rupees one lakh or more, importers are required to file separate Bill of Entry, as in the case of other imports. Accordingly, in respect of remittances for imports through courier services, authorised dealers should ensure submission of Exchange Control Copy of Bill of Entry for home consumption in the case of imports valued at Rupees one lakh or more. Where the value of import is less than Rupees one lakh, authorised dealers may obtain from the importer, a copy of Bill of Entry in the prescribed Form, issued by the Customs in the name of the registered courier, duly certified by the courier company, indicating thereon the particulars of the consignment for which the copy has been issued.
